ALBERTA
Best Places to Visit in Our Alberta Canada Travel Guide
Welcome to our Alberta Canada Travel Guide, where we share some of the best places to visit, things to do and unforgettable experiences across this incredible Canadian province.
From the towering Rocky Mountains and turquoise lakes to vibrant cities and scenic road trips, Alberta has something for every traveller.
But beyond the personal memories, Alberta is easily one of the most spectacular destinations in Canada.
Towering mountains, turquoise lakes, wildlife, waterfalls and endless scenic drives make this province feel like one enormous outdoor playground.
Our Alberta Canada travel guide takes you through some of our favourite places across the province, from Calgary to the breathtaking Canadian Rockies.
What we love most about Alberta is how quickly the scenery changes. You can be exploring Calgary in the morning and, within a couple of hours, find yourself surrounded by snow-capped mountains and brilliant blue lakes.
No matter how many times we visit, Alberta never seems to lose its magic.
Explore the Canadian Rockies
For us, no trip to Alberta is complete without heading into the Canadian Rockies.
Banff National Park is one of those places that looks almost too perfect to be real.
Think turquoise lakes, mountain peaks, wildlife and some of the most beautiful hiking trails in Canada.
Lake Louise is an obvious highlight, but there is so much more to discover. We love hiking around the area, heading up into the mountains and finding viewpoints away from the busiest spots.
Moraine Lake is another unforgettable Alberta destination.
If you can experience it around sunrise, the sight of the Ten Peaks reflecting across the water is something you’ll remember long after leaving Canada.
And one of the best things about exploring this part of Alberta? The journey between destinations is often just as spectacular as the destination itself.
🏔️ Alberta is home to some of Canada’s most famous Rocky Mountain landscapes.
🦖 Dinosaur fossils have been discovered throughout the province, particularly around the Alberta Badlands.
🌊 Alberta’s mountain lakes get their incredible turquoise colour from fine rock particles known as glacial flour.
🐻 Alberta is home to wildlife including black bears, grizzly bears, elk, bighorn sheep and moose.
🌲 Alberta contains five of Canada’s national parks: Banff, Jasper, Waterton Lakes, Elk Island and Wood Buffalo.
Planning Your Alberta Adventure
Alberta is the kind of destination where you could spend a few days or several weeks and still leave with places you wish you’d had time to explore.
If it’s your first visit, we recommend combining Calgary with Banff, Lake Louise and the Canadian Rockies.
With more time, continue north towards Jasper or add some of Alberta’s lesser-known destinations to your itinerary.
Summer is fantastic for hiking, lakes and road trips, while winter completely transforms the Rockies with snow-covered landscapes, skiing and frozen lakes.
For us, Alberta isn’t simply another destination in Canada. It’s a place filled with memories and somewhere we’ll always be excited to return to.
Whether you’re planning your first Canadian Rockies road trip or returning for another adventure, we hope our Alberta Canada travel guide helps you discover just how incredible this part of Canada can be.
