Exploring Musket Cove Fiji,
Malolo Lailai Island
Experience Musket Cove Fiji Island Resort & Marina
Welcome to our account of an unforgettable stay at Musket Cove Fiji Island Resort & Marina. Nestled in the heart of Fiji’s stunning Mamanuca Islands and located on Malolo Lailai Island, the resort offers a perfect blend of rustic charm and luxurious comfort.
Here, rustic charm blends effortlessly with luxurious comfort, creating an atmosphere that reflects the true essence of Fijian hospitality.

Getting to Musket Cove Fiji
We began our journey to this island paradise by flying into Nadi International Airport on Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu. From there, several transfer options are available to reach Malolo Lailai Island:
1. Seaplane or helicopter: Try the seaplane transfer for a spectacular experience. A 10-minute flight offers breathtaking aerial views of the Mamanuca Islands.
2. Speedboat: Another popular choice is a high-speed boat, which takes about 50 minutes from Port Denarau. This was our choice because we were arriving from Matamanoa Island. The boat ride was 45 minutes via Purple Turtle.
3. Ferry: For budget-conscious travellers, there’s a daily ferry service, though it takes longer (about 1.5 hours). Upon arrival at the resort’s private marina, we received a warm welcome and were greeted with warm smiles. We enjoyed a refreshing fruit drink, a beautiful Lei Lei, and the soothing sounds of Fijian music. It was an instant engagement in island life.

Island Activities
Musket Cove Fiji offers a wide range of activities designed for both relaxation seekers and adventure enthusiasts.
1. Several Water Activities:
🤿 Snorkelling: The daily low tide sandbank snorkelling trip was a highlight. It’s a small, white sand cay that only appears during mid to low tide, creating a temporary island-like formation. The vibrant coral reefs packed with tropical fish were a sight to behold.
🛶 Kayaking and Stand-Up Paddleboarding: We took advantage of the complimentary kayaks and SUP boards to explore the calm lagoon waters.
🤿 Scuba Diving: Although I’m not a certified diver, the resort’s PADI 5-Star dive centre, Subsurface Fiji, offers courses for beginners and exciting dives for experienced divers.
2. Several Land Activities:
🍳 Cooking Demonstrations: Participate in a cooking class where you learn to prepare traditional Fijian dishes – a skill that you can bring back home.
🎭 Cultural Experiences: The resort offers various Fijian cultural displays, including basket weaving, coconut husking, and traditional kava ceremonies.
🚶♀️ Guided Educational Walks : These fascinating tours introduced me to the island’s flora and their traditional uses.
⛳ Plantation Island Resort Golf Course: is a 10-minute walk from Musket Cove for golf lovers out there. It features a layback 9-hole course designed by Ananda Madhwan who was the 1996 Nadi Open winner.

Excursions
One of the highlights of staying at Musket Cove is the variety of experiences available both on and off the island. From laid-back afternoons on the water to unforgettable wildlife encounters and sunset sails, these excursions add an extra layer of magic to your stay. Here are a few that truly stood out for us:
⭐ Cloud 9: Only 15 minutes speedboat ride from Musket Cove. The floating platform features an internationally stocked bar, and an Italian wood-fired pizzeria and is surrounded by turquoise blue water and it can only accommodate up to 100 people at a time. Remember to bring your snorkelling gear, if possible, as Cloud 9 has limited equipment available for borrowing
⭐ Dolphin Safari: An early morning trip where we were lucky enough to spot playful dolphins in their natural habitat.
⭐ Sunset Cruise: A romantic evening sail around the island, complete with champagne and canapés.

Dining Experience
Dining at Musket Cove is relaxed, social, and full of flavour, with each venue offering its own atmosphere and personality. From poolside meals and standout seafood to casual bites and sunset drinks by the marina, eating here feels just as much a part of the experience as the island itself. These were our favourite spots during our stay:
🍽️ Dick’s Place Bar & Bistro: The resort’s main restaurant overlooks the pool and bay. We enjoyed their fresh seafood dishes and tropical cocktails.
🍽️ The Trader Cafe: Perfect for casual lunches, offering gourmet pizzas, smoothies, and takeaway options. This place has the best pizza we ever had!
🍽️ Yacht Club Island Bar: This iconic spot became our go-to for sundowners. It offered a chance to mingle with other guests.

We were impressed by Musket Cove’s commitment to sustainability. The resort has initiated several Eco-Friendly projects, including:

Reflections on Island Life
Our stay at the resort was more than just a vacation. We felt a connection to the Fijian way of life. The concept of “Fiji Time”, a relaxed, unhurried approach to life, quickly became my new normal.
The warm hospitality of the staff, many of whom are from nearby villages, added a genuine touch to every interaction. What struck us most was the sense of community.
Guests can chat with each other at the Yacht Club Bar. There were games of Trivia to join. There was always an opportunity to connect with others.
At the same time, guests keep a sense of privacy and exclusivity. Additionally, the resort’s commitment to sustainability also left a lasting impression.
Knowing that our stay contributed to the preservation of this beautiful ecosystem added depth to the experience.
