A Warm Fijian Welcome at Matamanoa Island Resort Fiji
The moment we arrived at Matamanoa Island Resort Fiji, it just felt different.
As we stepped off the speedboat, we were welcomed with a traditional Fijian song — not in a staged way, but in a genuinely warm, heartfelt way that instantly made us feel comfortable.
Looking around, all we could see were those unreal turquoise waters, white sand, and the kind of views you usually only see on postcards.
It was one of those moments where you pause and think… yeah, this is exactly what we needed.
As we walked towards our beachfront private pool villa, you could already tell this place was special.
It wasn’t over-the-top luxury, it was relaxed, thoughtful, and just done right.
Inside, the villa was spacious and inviting, with a big comfortable king bed, a sofa bed, and everything set up in a way that made it easy to switch off and just enjoy being there.
Our Favourite Part: The Private Pool & Outdoor Living
The standout for us was the private plunge pool.
It sat right in front of the beach with uninterrupted ocean views.
The water almost blended into the sea, it felt like one uninterrupted view.
We ended up spending so much time there, whether it was cooling off in the heat, sitting on the edge watching the waves, or just lying on the sun loungers doing absolutely nothing.
Surrounded by palm trees and greenery, it felt really private, like our own little escape.
Another thing we didn’t expect to love as much as we did was the outdoor shower. At first it felt a bit different, but it quickly became one of our favourite parts of the stay.
Showering outside, with the breeze, greenery all around, and the sound of the ocean in the background, it just made everything feel more connected to the island.
It’s those small moments that made the villa feel more than just somewhere to sleep.

Things to Do at Matamanoa Island Resort Fiji
One of the things we loved about Matamanoa Island Resort Fiji was that you could do as much or as little as you wanted.
Whether we felt like being active or just slowing things down, there was always something to enjoy without it ever feeling busy or overwhelming.
1. 🤿 Snorkelling & Scuba Diving
The snorkelling here was honestly one of the highlights of our trip.
Just a short swim from the beach and you’re straight into coral reefs full of colourful fish. We even spotted a reef shark, which was a bit of a moment!
If you’re keen to go further, the resort also offers scuba diving experiences where you can explore deeper parts of the reef with experienced guides.
2. 🚣 Kayaking Around the Island
Kayaking was another favourite. It’s such a simple activity, but being out on the water, slowly paddling around the island, gives you a completely different perspective of the place.
It was quiet, peaceful, and one of those moments where you just take it all in.
3. 🍽️ Fijian Cooking Classes
We decided to try the cooking class and it ended up being such a fun experience.
Learning how to make traditional Fijian dishes with local ingredients — and then getting to eat what we made, was definitely a highlight.
It’s one of those things you don’t always plan for, but ends up being really memorable.
4. 💆 Spa & Wellness
If you’re looking to fully switch off, the spa is worth it. We treated ourselves to a foot massage and it was exactly what we needed.
Just sitting there, listening to the ocean and feeling completely relaxed… it’s hard to beat that.
5. 🏝️ Island Hopping Adventures
If you’ve got the time, definitely do an island hopping tour — it was one of the best things we did.
Each island feels completely different, which makes the experience even more interesting.
One of our favourite trips was to Monuriki, also known as Castaway Island. The place is unreal, raw, untouched, and surrounded by clear blue water.
It’s actually where the movie Cast Away was filmed with Tom Hanks, which made it even cooler to visit.
Standing there, you can see why they chose it — it really does feel like you’ve stepped onto a remote, untouched island.
6. 🥾 Hiking Around the Island
If you feel like stretching your legs, there are a few walking trails around the island that are definitely worth exploring.
Whether you just want a casual walk or something a bit more adventurous, there’s a good mix.
One of the trails we found was near the Oceanfront Bures (around Villa 50). It’s a bit hidden — overgrown in parts — but that’s part of the fun. Once you get through, the views open up overlooking the ocean and boardwalk.
We even spotted a reef shark from up there, which was a pretty cool surprise. We’d call this one a moderate hike, especially with a few steeper sections.
There’s also another trail near Villa 55 that’s a bit more challenging. It starts off fairly normal, but then turns into a bit of an adventure as you follow an unmarked path up towards the highest point on the island.
It’s not the easiest climb, but the views at the top make it completely worth it.
If you’re unsure where to go, just ask the staff — they’re super helpful and happy to point you in the right direction or even help organise a guided walk.
Dining at Matamanoa Island Resort Fiji
Food ended up being one of the highlights of our stay at Matamanoa Island Resort Fiji. Every meal felt thoughtfully put together, with a mix of local flavours and international dishes that kept things interesting.
ou could really tell everything was made fresh. Because of this, each meal felt that little bit more special.
🌅 Breakfast by the Beach
Mornings quickly became our favourite part of the day. For example, we’d sit by the beach with fresh tropical fruit, pastries, and a few local dishes, all while looking out over the calm ocean.
It was such a relaxed way to start the day. In fact, these slow mornings ended up being some of our favourite moments.
🌙 Romantic Beachside Dinners
In the evenings, the whole atmosphere shifted to something more intimate. One night, we had dinner set up right by the beach, and it honestly felt like something out of a movie.
Dining under the stars, with the sound of the waves and soft lighting from the tiki torches, made it feel really special. As a result, it became one of those moments you remember long after the trip.
Slowing Down & Soaking It All In
One of the things we really loved about Matamanoa Island Resort Fiji was how easy it was to find that perfect balance between doing things and doing absolutely nothing.
In between activities, we found ourselves just enjoying the villa and everything around it — whether it was spending time in our private pool, going for a walk, or just taking in the views.
Some of our favourite moments were actually the simplest ones… lying by the pool with a cocktail in hand, no plans, no rush, just enjoying the quiet and the atmosphere.
It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down without even realising it.

Evenings We Didn’t Want to End
Every evening, we found ourselves heading down to the beach just before sunset — it quickly became part of our routine.
There was something about that time of day that just felt calm and unhurried.
As the sun started to drop, the sky would slowly change colours, from soft gold to deep orange and pink, reflecting across the water.
We’d just walk along the shoreline, taking it all in, not really saying much — just enjoying the moment.
It was simple, but those were some of the moments that stayed with us the most.
Saying Goodbye to Paradise
Leaving Matamanoa Island Resort Fiji was one of those moments that didn’t feel real. It was bittersweet — we were excited for the next stop, but at the same time, we weren’t quite ready to leave.
Our time on the island was filled with so many simple but special moments — from the little adventures to just relaxing and doing nothing.
As we stepped onto the speedboat, it wasn’t just photos or souvenirs we were taking with us… it was the feeling of the place that stayed.
What really stood out about Matamanoa was how easy it was to switch off. No noise, no rush, just nature, ocean views, and time to slow down.
It gave us a chance to breathe, reset, and appreciate the kind of moments we usually overlook.
If you’re looking for somewhere to truly disconnect and just be present, this is one of those places. It’s quiet, it’s beautiful, and it stays with you long after you leave.
We left Matamanoa feeling incredibly grateful, with memories we know we’ll hold onto for a long time. Until next time, Fiji — Vinaka Vaka Levu 🤍
