We stayed in an overwater bungalow, and simply waking up surrounded by endless shades of blue was one of the highlights of our Maldives holiday.

Getting to the resort is part of the adventure.

After arriving at Velana International Airport in Malé, our journey continued by seaplane to Cinnamon Hakuraa Huraa.

The flight takes approximately 40–45 minutes, depending on routing and stops, and offers spectacular aerial views of the Maldives.

Looking down from the seaplane, you’ll see tiny tropical islands surrounded by turquoise lagoons, coral reefs, and the deep blue Indian Ocean.

Because travelling to resorts requiring a seaplane takes additional time, we’d recommend staying at least 4–5 nights.

Your first and last days can involve a considerable amount of travelling, particularly when connecting with international flights.

Make sure you confirm your current seaplane arrangements, baggage allowances, transfer costs, and timings directly with your resort or booking provider before travelling.

For us, staying in an overwater bungalow was one of the main reasons to visit the Maldives.

However, travellers who prefer having sand directly outside their accommodation may prefer a beach bungalow.

Your choice really comes down to whether you’d rather wake up over the lagoon or step directly onto the beach.

On a remote island, you won’t be walking down the road looking for another restaurant. Having meals and selected drinks included makes it much easier to relax without constantly thinking about additional costs.

You can also simply enjoy swimming in the lagoon or exploring the island at your own pace.

For us, part of the appeal of the Maldives is that you don’t need to fill every day with activities.

Some days are better spent doing absolutely nothing — relaxing beside the water, enjoying the resort, and taking in the incredible scenery.

A Maldives holiday is the perfect excuse to slow down.

Our stay at Cinnamon Hakuraa Huraa Maldives delivered so many of the experiences we’d imagined when dreaming about the Maldives.

From arriving by seaplane to stepping inside our overwater bungalow, the location immediately felt special.

The combination of turquoise water, tropical scenery, all-inclusive dining, activities, and plenty of opportunities to simply relax made it easy to switch off.

But one of the biggest highlights was the setting itself.

There’s something unforgettable about waking up above the Indian Ocean, walking onto your private deck, and seeing turquoise water stretching out in front of you.
