Fiji isn’t just a destination—it’s an archipelago of over 300 islands scattered across the South Pacific, each offering its unique charm and beauty. Many travellers underestimate just how diverse and magical Fiji truly is, from the famous Coral Coast and the breathtaking Mamanuca Islands to the world-renowned luxury resorts and vibrant local villages.
But your Fiji adventure extends far beyond the resort pools. Venture further and you’ll discover untouched coral reefs perfect for diving, traditional Fijian villages where time seems to stand still, lush tropical rainforests, and a culture so welcoming that “Bula!” becomes your favourite greeting.
Please keep in mind, Fiji offers experiences for every type of traveller, whether you’re seeking luxury, adventure, or cultural immersion. The 333 islands each tell their own story, from the bustling main island of Viti Levu to the remote and pristine outer islands where you can truly disconnect from the world.

Currency
You’ll be using Fijian Dollars (FJD) when you’re in Fiji. You can easily withdraw cash from ATMs in Nadi, Suva, and other towns. However, keep in mind that smaller islands and remote resorts may not have ATMs, so it’s wise to bring cash for these areas. Most resorts and restaurants accept credit cards, but having cash is essential for local markets and village visits.
Power Points
Fiji uses the same power points as Australia and New Zealand – three flat prongs in an angled configuration. If you’re travelling from elsewhere, don’t forget to pack a universal travel adapter. It’ll save you from any charging hassles during your island paradise vacation!
Official Language
Fiji has three official languages: English, Fijian (iTaukei), and Fiji Hindi. English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas, making communication easy for international visitors. You’ll love learning some basic Fijian phrases – “Bula” (hello) and “Vinaka” (thank you) will earn you warm smiles everywhere!
Drinking Tap Water
Tap water in major hotels and resorts is generally safe to drink, as it’s filtered and treated. However, it’s recommended to stick to bottled water, especially when visiting local villages or smaller islands. Most resorts provide complimentary bottled water for guests.
Visa Requirement
Most visitors can enter Fiji visa-free for up to 4 months, including citizens from Australia, New Zealand, the USA, the UK, and many European countries. You’ll need a valid passport with at least 6 months remaining validity. Always check current visa requirements before travelling, as they can change.
Discover Fiji’s Delicious Foods
Fiji offers incredible culinary experiences you must try:
🍽️ Kokoda: Fiji’s national dish – fresh fish marinated in coconut milk and lime juice, similar to ceviche but uniquely Fijian.
🍽️ Lovo: Traditional earth oven cooking where meat and vegetables are slow-cooked underground with hot stones.
🍽️ Roti: Influenced by the Indo-Fijian community, these flatbreads are perfect with curry dishes.
🍽️ Fresh Tropical Fruits: Papaya, mango, pineapple, and passion fruit taste incredible when picked fresh from the islands.
🍽️ Kava: The traditional ceremonial drink made from the kava root – participate in a kava ceremony for an authentic cultural experience.
Best Time to Visit Fiji
The best time to visit Fiji is during the dry season from May to October. During these months, you’ll enjoy perfect weather with less humidity, minimal rainfall, and comfortable temperatures around 22-26°C (72-79°F).
The wet season (November to April) brings higher temperatures, humidity, and occasional tropical storms, but it’s also when you’ll find the best deals and fewer crowds. Just keep in mind that cyclone season runs from November to April.
